3 Ways Distractions Can Ruin Your Dreams

Have you ever experienced distractions that seem to keep you from completing a goal, dream, or task? I’m sure your immediate answer is “Of course!” But many people are not aware that these distractions are meant to detour your from achieving your best self & reaching success.

Recently, I had dinner with my best friend. I hadn’t seen her for a while because our lives are so busy with family, work, & business. During dinner, we discussed the importance of having complete focus on achieving success and how not to allow distractions from getting in the way.

In our case, as with many people, distractions would come in the form of family emergencies, financial obligations, life changing events, and unexpected problems. Just thinking about all of the things that can happen can be considered a distraction. We agreed that we must be ‘intentional’ about our goals and to make sure that we properly prioritize the issues that come up in our lives.

For my friend, her determination to become to start her own business has required a financial investment and she gave up her job to start the journey. As soon as she started the journey of starting her own business some things started to go wrong. She started to have car problems which needed immediate repair, a leak was found in the basement that required repair, and the her children had unexpected expenses that popped up that were originally supposed to have been free or paid for.

Distractions will always present itself in our lives, the question is how are we going to respond to them?

Now someone may have looked at this and said “maybe I should not have my own business” or “this is a bad idea”. Not her! She knew in her heart that the business she started was what she was meant to do and that those distractions were merely there to get her discouraged. She decided to respond to the situation with a positive attitude and to look to positive outlets and resources to help her. In the end, she ended up pulling through and getting over the distraction.

3 Ways Distractions Can Ruin Your Dreams

1. Your Heart Isn’t In It

You leave your job without a clear understanding of what you should do or you start a business or idea because of someone else. You must have a clear understanding of your dream, goal, or purpose for yourself. It is your passion and love. So take the time to discover what that means and is for you.

2. You’re Sold On Just A Fairy Tale

The thought of being successful with all of the prestige and respect that comes with it seems very appealing. But to complete the task requires endless hours of hard work and continual development and this reality is far less appealing.

3. Easily distracted

Instead of focusing on the tasks and work ahead of you, you tend to wander off into other activities or issues. You can be easily distracted by expected and unexpected circumstances. Being a person who achieves success requires focus. So, if you are that person, set daily goals for yourself and try your best to complete them.

If you are to achieve the success you really want, it requires total focus. You must be prepared to give it your full attention and be 100% committed to your projects. It must become the number one priority in your life.

So, are you ready to let go of the distractions and pursue your dreams?  If so, start today!

Until next time.
