Encouraging Black History Celebration In The WorkPlace

Hi again!

It’s Lorinda here!

Do you know what makes a work environment enjoyable? It is when the people who work there feel appreciated and noticed. This is one thing that makes an employee motivated to be leaders in the workplace. I want to encourage employees and executive members to take time to appreciate and celebrate the diversity and talents of your team.

One way to do this is to allow events and activities that will encourage diversity and inclusion to the various cultures, ethnic backgrounds, races, and more within your organization. Creating a path of knowledge that will stimulate a persons awareness of the history, gifts, and talents of the people around them, can generate more of a team oriented environment.

February is Black History month and opens the door of opportunities to have engaging conversation and exposure to the contributions and sacrifices of Black Americans to our nation and world. Here are some ways in which you can encourage diversity and Black History month:

  1. Provide A Special Program & Speakers

Have special programs and speakers at your place of employment is a great way to increase exposure and initiate conversation about diversity and black history month. Allow for the staff to take an extra longer lunch or time during the day to attend the programs and hear the speakers. Not only does it foster better relationships, but it also increases the sense of value and morale.

2. Attend Local Museums and Events

During this time of the year, many communities are hosting special admission pricing for museums and other activities to encourage the diversity celebration. Please be sure to look at your local newspaper, magazine, or online to find out some of the events that are in your area. If you see an event near your job, and would like to participate, then attending the event would be help increase diversity awareness.

3. Honor Black History Month Heroes

Sometimes we just need to reflect on the goodness of many of the great black history month heroes. As we look over our history and as we continue to make history, let’s all take time to reflect on how valuable their contributions have been to our lives. There has been inventions, inspirations, and innovations that have come from the great men & women of our nation. Let’s share with others that we honor and appreciate our country’s history.
